Questions and answers
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature works without one, and your library is stored on your device either way. An account is optional.
How do reminders work?
Turn on Remind me on a show or movie. Episodic then sends one notification on days with something new, at the time you pick in Settings → Notifications. It lists new episodes, premieres and finales, and movie digital releases. iOS asks for permission the first time you turn on a reminder.
Reminders are planned on your device about two months ahead, so open the app now and then to keep them up to date.
I'm not getting reminders
Check that notifications for Episodic are allowed in the iOS Settings app, that Remind me is on for the show or movie, and that the kind of release is turned on in Settings → Notifications. Then open Episodic once so it can plan your reminders again.
Why does an episode show up a day early or late?
Episodic uses TMDB's air dates, which don't include a time or time zone. An episode that airs in the evening in the US can already be the next day where you are.
Some information is wrong or missing
Show and movie information comes from TMDB, a database anyone can edit, so you can correct it there. Episodic refreshes each title every 12 hours, or right away when you pull down on Up next.
How do I move my library to a new iPhone?
Restoring your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup brings your library along. You can also export a full backup in Settings → Export data and open it on the new device in Settings → Import data, or use nearby sync.
Can I use Episodic on my computer?
Yes, in your browser at app.episodic.aroncreates.com. It keeps its own library in that browser, separate from your iPhone. To move your library across, export a backup in Settings → Export data and import it on the other side. Reminders and nearby sync are only in the iPhone and iPad app.
How does nearby sync work?
On both devices, open Settings → Sync → Nearby sync and check that they show the same 4-digit code. Your library goes directly between them over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, with no internet or account needed. Keep Episodic open on both. The first time, iOS asks for permission to find devices on your local network.
Can I import from Letterboxd or IMDb?
Yes. In Settings → Import data, choose an Episodic backup, a Letterboxd export or your IMDb ratings (CSV). You see what will change before anything is added.
I didn't get the email to confirm my address or reset my password
Check your spam folder. You can ask for another email after 60 seconds. Links and codes in these emails expire after an hour.
How do I change or reset my password?
When you're signed in, go to Settings, tap your account, then Change password. If you're signed out, tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen.
How do I delete my account?
Go to Settings, tap your account, then tap Delete account. It's deleted right away, along with everything stored with it. Your library stays on your device. You can also email us to delete it. The privacy policy has the details.
Is Episodic free?
Yes, and it has no ads.
